We flew into Detroit and stayed with my friends Krystle and Steve. Gwen sang with Krystle in bands when they lived in San Francisco.
I picked up my bib from the expo, wearing my new New Balance gear that I got from the NB Pizza Contest a few days earlier (that I won against a team of 3 from Barstool Sports!). I customized the bib with ‘For Gwen’.
I got up early and headed to the start. This course is really unique in that runners cross the Canadian border into Windsor over the Ambassador bridge.
And then back into the U.S. through a tunnel. It’s pretty magical. There’s no other race I’ve run like Detroit.
I saw my friends several times along the route and at the finish line.
We went to go see the Heidelberg Project art installation. It’s pretty wild and a must see if you go to Detroit.
Overall, the Detroit Marathon is one of a kind and should be your top choice if looking for a Michigan marathon.
